Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions characterized by damage to the optic nerve. The condition is frequently hereditary and often caused by abnormally high pressure in the eye. It is one of the leading causes of blindness in the US. While it can occur at any age, it is most commonly shows up later in life. Without treatment, glaucoma may lead to permanent blindness.

Though vision loss caused by glaucoma is irreversible, lowering eye pressure may help prevent further visual loss of vision due to glaucoma.
